Be Your Own Best Counselor/Learn How

In life, we can suddenly be faced with a physical, emotional crisis. Yet, in reality, nothing happens suddenly. It’s much like tying to buy insurance after the fender bender. Or more dramatically, wishing there was a safety net to catch us when we are falling. If the net or the insurance is not in place in advance, we must move forward without protection. An that scenario is usually very painful.

The way Strength of Spirit Consulting i.e. spiritual counseling works, is that we spend time building our resiliency and inner strength and intuition before the crisis hits. This is not to say that if we are in crisis in this moment, there is nothing we can do. It’s just a lot harder to gather the energy to do the work when we are stuck in the muck.

The goal of Strength of Spirit Consulting is to provide you with tools so that you can pull them out anytime you choose to become your own best counselor and healer. We all have a deep inner knowing.  In crisis, we all know deep down what to do. The goal is to be able to tap into that knowing. That can be really difficult and often, we reach out for medical assistance, therapies, and/or down a multitude of medications. There is nothing wrong with depending on all available assistance in the short term to get us through. But to solve any physical or emotional disease long-term, we absolutely must connect with what is our spirit, usually the missing piece.

With a strength of spirit consultation, you are in charge because you know your own spirit best. Gathering practical tools to help you connect to that spirit in tough times is key. Sandra acts as a facilitator using her certifications in ThetaHealing, Spiritual Counseling and writing/editing to support each client in their chosen journey.

Here is just one tool that seems to work well for most:

The Paper Plate Method

How we spend our time on a day-to-day basis is certainly coming into play in our overall wellness. Here’s a simple way to document where we are in terms of our day-to-day focus. You will need a paper plate and colored markers or crayons. For a full day, record your daily time investment by dividing the paper plate into small or large segments. Color the segments that you feel are good for you in your favorite colors and use your less favorite colors for those segments that may not serve you. Time focused worrying with run-away thoughts are commonly identified as not so good. Be sure to include thinking about specific problems, grief, work, play, eating, exercising, social media, TV, reading, etc. Once we take a visual, colorful, honest snapshot of how we invest our time, we can go about the business of replacing, bit by bit, those things that you yourself feel are contributing to your unwellness…not what others say you need to change, but those things that you decide you can and would like to replace. We can’t just stop doing things that are bad for us. That never works. What does work is to slowly replace unhealthy investments or behaviors a little at a time with healthier ones.

Keep the paper plate on display. Once a week, re-do the plate and congratulate yourself on your progress. You will find that you will feel empowered, more in control and other interventions will begin to work more effectively.

Try it! You’ll love how it feels. Expect miracles.
